Last week, I asked whether YOU were set up for success in 2021.

Have you gained greater clarity on what success means to you and how you are going to achieve it?  If you have well done, if you haven’t my invitation is for you to keep working there.

Why is it important YOU’RE clear on your vision for success in 2021?

It’s important because our team are a direct reflection of us. What we have and haven’t done, what we allow to happen and what we don’t allow to happen will ALL be mirrored back to us by our team.

That’s why it’s so important for us as leaders to BE the example.

At Kaibizzen, our philosophy of business is this…

Your business is the the tool you use to create the life you want for yourself and your family.

Too many business owners have a business where they’re the main tool – they’re the one doing all the hard work.

My invitation to you this year is instead of ending up stressed and exhausted like you did at the end of 2020, make 2021 the year you focus on taking care of your team so that YOUR TEAM takes care of your business. (For more on how that actually works, read my earlier blog here.)

What Results Will I See If My Team Is Set Up For Success?

Sometimes, because we’re human as well as business owners, we are susceptible to confusing having a team of people we LIKE with having a team who have both the skills and the ability to take our business to where we want it to go.

So… what results would you expect to see from a team who’s set up for success?

  • I would see a high performing team, who are effectively and efficiently taking caring of the needs of my clients
  • I would see daily evidence of the culture I want. That means I would see the behaviours and the performance I want, which would result in the outcomes I’m after achieved in the manner I want it to be done
  • My team would know exactly what results I want (clarity) and they will deliver those to me because me achieving what I wants means the team achieve what they want (alignment).
  • I would have the right people with the right skills ding the right job at the right time.

Ultimately, the number one outcome you’d expect to see when your team is truly set up for success is this…

You would ONLY be doing what you truly love in your business.  You will have employed others who are better than you to do the rest (usually they’re better because they love doing it, while you do it because you have to).

How Do I Set My Team Up For Success?

  1. Know very clearly what each individual’s highest priorities are and what ‘success’ looks like in those highest priorities FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL employee.
  2. Ensure every member of your team have their success goals aligned to their highest priorities.
  3. Every day encourage them to ask themselves, “Are my actions heading me towards those highest priority goals?”
  4. Acknowledge that they, like you, may have to have some focus on things that aren’t their highest life priorities.  For example, their job may not be their highest priority.  However, you can help them see how their job is going to help them achieve and live to their highest priorities.
  5. Stop expecting the individual members of your team to be and do the same as you (and have the same priorities as you).
  6. Ensure you and each of your employees know exactly what is expected of them and how their performance is going to be measured.
  7. Give them the development they need to achieve their current job.
  8. Ask them what their future job progression goals are and enable them to get the development they need, either by acting in roles, giving them coaching or mentoring and/or other development.
  9. At the end of every day ask yourself, “What did I do today to help my team fulfil their most purposeful, meaningful, productive and profitable best today?”.

My deepest desire for you is that in 2021 that your team enable you achieve every ounce of success that you deserve.
